April was born in 1969 on the outskirts of Kansas City, Missouri, where she spent her childhood immersed in her family farm. Her days were filled with the gentle hum of farm life, tending to her beloved rabbits, and experimenting with the art of watercolor. Her dream was to leave the confines of the farm and use her artistic skills to illustrate picture books. Friends and teachers recall her as a quiet, kind-hearted girl with an unmistakable spark of creativity.

In the summer of 1986, shortly after April turned 17, tragedy struck. On the night of June 22, an intruder broke into the family farmhouse, and April's life was brutally cut short. She was found in her bedroom aside her unfinished watercolor painting. Her cause of death was a gruesome stab wound to the forehead, inflicted with a pair of rusted, silver nail scissors. The weapon was left at the scene, as well as a black spray paint on her bed sheets that read: "June 22nd, 1986. It's May now!" April's room was left in chaos; overturned furniture, and scattered belongings hinting at a violent struggle. On the farmland, investigators found no other signs of forced entry from the outside. This suggested to investigators that the perpetrator may have been in their farm house subsequent to the murder (to learn the home layout), or could have been someone that April, or her family knew.

A single partial fingerprint was recovered from the nail scissors, but it has yet to lead to any conclusive answers. Her story has since become a chilling local legend, a reminder of how abruptly a bright future can be extinguished.
